How can we create the future we need and want for our town?
If you live, work, study, own property, or run a business in Buxton, we want to hear from YOU.
Everyone, young and old, from every part of Buxton, is invited to take part in the Big Buxton Conversation 2.
The four largest member organisations in the town – Vision Buxton, Buxton Civic Association, Buxton Town Team and Transition Buxton – are coming together to host the event.
It is a face-to-face event taking place on Monday 8 November 2021, between 2:30pm and 5:30pm at Buxton Methodist Church on the Market Place.
To attend the event, please register via Eventbrite here.
It is free and includes goodies from the Pig & Pepper Bakery at break time.
The event follows on from the Big Buxton Conversation which was held online in April 2021. You do not need to have joined in with this to participate in the second session.
The Big Buxton Conversation 1
On 24 April 2021, a group of 50 or so Buxtonians gathered online for a journey from ‘What is?’ to ‘What if?’ and ‘What next?’. Together, they travelled forward in time to Buxton in 2030 to imagine the town we’d like to be living in then. After returning to 2021, they came up with some ‘delicious ideas’ and lots of great ‘What if’ questions to help us create that place. For example:
- What if we had a citizen’s forum or town council?
- What if we grew food in public spaces, green walls and roofs?
- What if children could play safely in their neighbourhood streets?
- What if there was a shared community hub in the town centre for local activities, pop ups, artisans, support groups, learning, lending, repairing, and sharing?
For ‘What next’, they split the ideas into themes and voted for the themes they felt had with the most energy behind them to start identifying priorities for change.
The votes ranked the themes as follows:
- Local Government and Public Transport
- Empty Buildings & the Built Environment
- Energy and Business
After that came; Nature, Provision for Young People, Waste & Resources, Parking / Private transport, Housing, Food, Leisure & Tourism and lastly Health.
If you wish to review the April event in full, the proceedings can be accessed via the Transition Buxton website.
