- any medical need, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person.

Even when doing these activities, you should be minimising time spent outside of the home and ensuring you are 2 metres apart from anyone outside of your household. Full statement here.
What you can and cannot do FAQs here.
How to Help Safely
- Only help members of your community who are isolating if you (and all others in your household) are well (and don’t have symptoms like a cough or high temperature); you are under 70, not pregnant and do not have any long-term health conditions that make you vulnerable.
- You should only provide support where it is essential for the health or care of a vulnerable person.
- Do not go inside the homes of others and remain 2m apart – leave items on the doorstep.
- Limit the amount of time you spend outside of your home – pick up items for them when you do your own shopping or collect their medicines during the same trip.
- Wash your hands regularly – before leaving the house and upon your return.
Full guidance is available here.
Food
- It is very unlikely that you can catch coronavirus (COVID-19) from food. Cooking thoroughly will kill the virus. The risk of cross-contamination to food and food packaging is very low.
- If you have been shopping, there should be no need to sanitise the outer packaging of food but you should still follow good hygiene practice by washing your hands after handling any outer packaging.
- When you are buying loose foods such as fruit, vegetables, or bread in a bakery, try and only touch what you are going to buy. At home, you can minimise direct hand contact with food by using tongs and utensils.
- You should follow good hygiene and preparation practices when handling and eating raw fruit, leafy salads and vegetables. This includes washing fresh produce to help to remove any contamination on the surface. Peeling the outer layers or skins of certain fruits and vegetables can also help to remove surface contamination. We would remind you not to wash raw chicken or other meat as this can lead to cross-contamination in your kitchen.
Full guidance here.
Travel Safely
- Do not travel if you or anyone in your household are showing symptoms of coronavirus or you are clinically vulnerable.
- Avoid public transport where possible – walk, cycle or drive
- Consider when you travel and your route – take a less busy route at a quieter time
- Stay local – reduce your distance of travel
- Travel rarely – reduce the frequency of your travel
- Maintain social distancing when walking or cycling
- Wash your hands before and after travelling
- Check any public transport routes and times before travelling
- Wear a face covering (not required by law)
Full guidance here.
From Wednesday 13 May – Stay Alert
- continue to maintain social distancing measures, wash your hands and work from home if you can, reduce the number of people you are face to face with, avoid travel, avoid crowds, frequently clean communal surfaces, ventilate indoor spaces
- you can meet one other person from a different household outside, whilst maintaining social distancing measures
- you can exercise outside more than once a day
- you can spend more time outside – go to parks and beaches to sunbathe, have a picnic and go fishing
- face coverings should be worn in enclosed spaces and where social distancing isn’t possible such as shops and on public transport
- food retailers, food markets, hardware stores and garden centres can remain open
- outdoor sports facilities such as tennis and basketball courts, golf courses and bowling greens can open but only used with members of your household or one other person, whilst maintaining social distancing measures

Buxton Festival Fringe
Last updated 21/7/20
The Fringe went ahead 1-19 July with mostly online performances. Read the Chair’s End of Fringe review here.
Entry – there was no entry deadline (formerly June 1) in order to allow new events to come forward following the inevitable cancellation of some live performances. There was no printed programme to retain maximum flexibility until 1 July, when the Fringe began. There was no entry fee. If you have already paid a fee, you will receive full refunds.
Fringe@5 – this was re-imagined as Phone@5 and featured Fringe stars including Mike Raffone, Sam Slide, Will Hawthorne and Debbie Cannon offering five to ten minute micro-performances down the phone. Anyone interested in receiving a call was invited to ring 01298 79351 to book one of the 5pm slots running from 6-10 July and 13-17 July. There was a choice of music, comedy, poetry and stories. If you have been feeling a bit isolated or in need of a boost this is your chance to bring a little Buxton Fringe stardust into your life!
Fringe Sunday – this went online with a film about the philosophy behind the event and a nostalgic gallery of pictures from past years. The Fringe also put up an online version of its Fringe40 archive exhibition plus puzzles and games. Complete online Fringe jigsaws here.
Reviews – the reviews system still went ahead offering valuable feedback for performers and a record of a unique year.

Buxton Flowerpot Trail
Last updated 9/6/20
The Buxton flowerpot project for this year has been brought forward and extended to brighten up the day of those still walking around the town – key workers, community volunteers, exercising households etc.
Display your flowerpot creations in a window, on a doorstep or in your front yard/garden for those walking past to see. Can you make them reflect your isolation experience – what activities you are doing, or how you are feeling.
Send their location to hello@funnywonders.org.uk to be added onto the map.
Also send through a picture so those who are unable to leave their house at this time can still enjoy them in the project photo album.
The project is running from April to August, so lots of time to get designing and making. In July, the trail will be part of the Buxton Festival Fringe.
Making instructions and a promotional poster are available from Funny Wonders’ Facebook post and their website.
Making videos are available on their YouTube channel here.
