Funny Wonders is a community arts CIC (Community Interest Company) based in Buxton, Derbyshire. We have been working in our local community since the late 1990s providing creative opportunities and experiences for people of all ages. Our work has involved: projects in a variety of community and educational settings in Buxton and surrounding counties; partnership with Buxton Opera House to present the Buxton Puppet Festival and international links and exchanges with Yamabiko-Za Children's Theatre (Sapporo, Japan) and the Katkatha Troupe (Delhi, India).
We promote participation at all levels and creative expression in an inclusive and supportive environment through puppetry, story-telling, script-writing and musical composition. Our first priority and major focus is on the 'doing' rather than the final product: we believe it is the spending time being creative which is worthwhile. This means that our activities are for everybody, whatever the ability or skill level. One of our regular community projects is the Buxton Flowerpot Trail.
We have linked with many local groups including Transition Buxton, Poole’s Cavern, Buxton Town Team, Buxton Museum and Buxton Drama League. We run making workshops at community events, parties and in schools. Please get in touch if you would like to link with us for a creative project.
