Description

The Derbyshire tradition of Well Dressing started in Buxton in 1840.

This custom is still continued today when floral decorations are placed around the wells of the world famous Buxton Spring Water. The whole town then springs to life with a street Carnival and Fair to add to the occasion. This is one of the largest public events to take place in Derbyshire which is open to everyone and free to attend.

The Well Dressing decorations and other events are organised by a committee with a vast army of helpers from the community. Everything takes place in the first two weeks of July each year.
